WAFU Elects Adamu As President

Dr. Amos AdamuAN extra-ordinary elective general assembly of the West African Football Union on Saturday in Accra threw out Ivorian Jacques Anouma as president, replacing him with Nigeria's notable administrator Dr Amos Adamu, reports hotsportslive.com.

Adamu was unanimously elected by all nine of the 16 members present while Togo, whose FA President Tata Avlessi is a personal friend of Anouma, was present as observer.

Mandated voters from Mauritania, Senegal, Guinea, Mali, Liberia, Ghana, Benin Republic, Niger and Nigeria all spoke with one voice in a clear demonstration of discontent with an Anouma leadership that has failed to stage one competition or even call a single meeting in 37 months.

"I thank you all for the confidence you have in me and I am ready to work very hard to see that Wafu returns to its active days when there were competitions at senior, junior, intermediate, female and inter-club levels. We will go all out to get sponsorship and market our programmes with vigour", promised Adamu, who is also member of the executive committees of Caf and Fifa and is Director of Sports in Nigeria.

Also elected at Saturday's session were Moucharaf Anjorin of Benin Republic as first Vice-President, Mrs Izetta Wesley of Liberia as second Vice-President and four representatives of the zones: Massa Diara of Mauritania for Zone A; Yacouba Traore of Mali for Zone B; Kwesi Nyantakyi of Ghana for Zone C and Alhaji Oumarou Diambedou of Niger for Zone D.
